What Is a Singposium? Discover the Magic of the Summer Choral Showcase

Youth Choir Performance Southeast Wisconsin with Making Music Vocal Arts

Presented by Making Music Vocal Arts:

This Saturday, Making Music Vocal Arts (MMVA) invites you to experience something entirely new: the Summer Choral Showcase Singposium — a unique blend of concert performance and musical exploration. Held at Community United Methodist Church in Elm Grove on Saturday, June 21st at 2:00 PM, this exciting event is more than just a concert — it’s a celebration of music, learning, and creativity.

So… What Is a Singposium?

A “Singposium” is MMVA’s fresh and educational twist on the traditional choral concert. It’s a hybrid event:

  • Part concert, showcasing the talent and artistry of our Summer Choral Showcase singers.

  • Part symposium, inviting the audience behind the scenes to learn more about what makes vocal music so rich and rewarding.

Audience members will not only hear beautiful performances but also learn how singers bring music to life. The Singposium offers live demonstrations of:

  • Vocal warm-ups and technique exercises

  • Artistic choices in phrasing and dynamics

  • Interpretive decisions made in rehearsal

  • Stories and insights behind the music

This isn’t just a passive performance — it’s an immersive experience that brings listeners into the heart of the choral process.

Why Attend?

Whether you're a music lover, choir supporter, educator, or just curious about how a piece of music goes from the page to performance, the Singposium is for you. You'll witness students entering grades 7–12 from across the region come together to build community and share their voices in an uplifting, collaborative way — all within the span of just a few rehearsals.

This summer’s theme, “Poetry of Summer,” features choral works inspired by summer, fun, and yes even Shakespeare. It’s the perfect way to kick off summer with purpose and creativity.
